Testimonial of Salim Khabaz

The persecution of Dr. Dahesh was a prime motivator for many Middle-Eastern writers in the American Continent. In issue fourteen, year one, December 1946, page 9, of the “Al-Mukhtasar” magazine, Saleem Khabaz wrote the following:

“By following the news of Dr. Dahesh, I learned that he is calling for the unity of religions. In my opinion, this is a great accomplishment in human history and possibly a continuation of what past reformers had set in place. Knowing that this task is very difficult, nonetheless, I encourage the idea because it unites the three religions [that descended from Abraham] into one religion, in a form appropriate for the time, coincides with scientific discovery, and leads through its teachings to peace and harmony. I do wish from our thinkers to study this issue with total honesty, fidelity, and tolerance because it is the best medicine to cure our segmented religions. It would be a great phenomenon because if it is able to assist us, it may then assist the entire world. We shouldn’t be surprised to learn of resistance against such a movement, because through out history, all great movements were persecuted and opposed. The case of Dahesh is following a normal course when it comes to resistance and to the way his followers congregated to defend their beliefs with their own lives…and in the end, only the truth survives and produces good things.

The issue deserves to be studied, cared for, and kept up with. It is sufficient to indicate that the intentions of Dr. Dahesh are noble and for that, he had suffered, just like all other reformers before him from torture, persecution, and homelessness.”
